Firewalk Theatre, a Spanish-based professional theatre company, performed their latest play for students from Truro College, Truro High School for Girls and Mullion School, among others, at Truro College’s Mylor Theatre. The show, which was in Spanish, was an adaptation of the biggest Spanish classic of the Picaresque genre; “El Lazarillo de Tormes”, an anonymous novel from the 16th Century which tells of the adventures and misadventures of a boy who has to leave home and serve different masters. The storyline kept the dramatic elements of the original while introducing humorous sketches. The script was adapted so all levels would be targeted, so even beginners left with the feeling they had understood a good deal of the play and the response from the audience was fantastic. Organiser and Spanish lecturer at the College, Antonio Gomariz-Pérez, said: “This is a great opportunity for our students not only to enjoy themselves through a different language, which is incredibly rewarding, but to a lesser extent fill the literary gap in the curriculum and fire their imaginations. I wish we had more opportunities like this in this part of the world.”
